How to Pass Microsoft PL 300 Exam

I have cleared Microsoft PL 300 Exam in my first attempt. Hence, I wanted to share my experience.....

Duration required for Preparation is approximately 45 to 60 days assuming that you are already working and have limited time to prepare for exam. 

 Before scheduling the exam, Please go through the fundamentals of Power BI which includes Data Preparation, Modelling and visualization. 

 To Understand the Basics and concepts required to clear the exam. I would recommend to take this Udemy course: https://www.udemy.com/course/microsoft-power-bi-certification-da-100-exam-prep/ 

 Once you are familiar with the basics, Please schedule the exam with one month time.

 You will get one free practice exam after scheduling the exam. Please take this practice exam. You can also purchase more practice tests if your pocket allows you to go :) 

 After scheduling the exam, Plan your day so that you will be spending at least 2 to 3 hours in a day for practice.

 There are four major topics which you need to focus on
  1) Prepare the data (15-20%) 
  2) Model the data (30-35%)
  3) Visualize and analyze the data (30-35%)
  4) Deploy and maintain assets (10-15%) 

 You can start learning from Microsoft website 
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/paths/data-analytics-microsoft/ which has simple explanation with steps along with quiz at the end of each module. Complete this course. 

 You can pass this exam if you are clear with the concepts as the exam will test your understanding of the concepts.

 Important concepts to look for in the exam are listed below
    > Data connectivity with different data types or servers ( e.g. JSON connectivity needs a different steps ) 

    > DAX calculations like CALCULATE, FILTER, RELATED, SAMPERIODLASTYEAR, PARALLELPERIOD , ALL, Time Intelligence Functions, SUMMARIZE, VALUES,DIVIDE, SUMX, SUM, USERELATIONSHIP, TOPN, DATEADD, ALLEXCEPT, KEEPFILTER, HASONEVALUE, LOOKUP, CALENDAR, CALENDARAUTO 

 > Incremental Refresh

 > Slicers (slicers in multiple pages and how it can be controlled)

 > Edit Chart Interactions ( Interactions between various charts like Filter, Highlight and None) 

 > RLS Row Level Security and implementation

 > Understand the Why and How of each visualization e.g. Why is the Line chart used and how to use it. ( If you understand these concepts, you can answer one or two questions easily in the exam) 

 > Data Profiling

 > Concepts like Merge, Append, Pivot, Unpivot, Dynamic Parameters, Bookmarks, Query Folding, Tool tips > Spend More time in Data Modelling as there will be more questions linked to data modelling and DAX functions (Cardinality and types of relationship is most important) 

 > you should also know the concepts of Dashboard , Mobile View , Gateway usage 

 > Different roles in Power BI Service and configurations
